Mangaluru Crafters Weave Joy and Empowerment This Diwali

As Diwali approaches in 2025, the Needlework and Craft Circle, a vibrant community of 198 members in Mangaluru, is celebrating the joy of handmade crafts with a purpose. Led by Sabrina Britto Hougaard, the group is selling an exquisite collection of crochet decorations, from diyas and doilies to colorful buntings and pouches, to raise funds for a worthy cause.

The proceeds from the Diwali sale will go toward helping a young woman become a self-reliant seamstress. What makes this project even more special is that it came together without spending a single rupee, as the yarn was donated by Cecillia Sreshta and Sabrina, and about 14 women contributed their time and creativity.

The Needlework and Craft Circle, open to residents of Mangaluru, brings together members aged 17 to 70, united by their love for art and craft. It serves as a platform to inspire and be inspired. The team reminds buyers to use battery-operated candles with the crochet décor and avoid open flames, encouraging the use of handmade items that carry a story, a blessing, and a prayer.
