Authorities in Ujjain recently conducted a unique load test on a 91-foot-long footbridge at the Mahakaleshwar temple complex. More than 300 security guards participated, jumping in unison for ten minutes to simulate heavy devotee traffic. The bridge leads to the Nagchandreshwar temple, which opens annually for 24 hours on Nag Panchami. Engineers from the Bridge Corporation and public works department meticulously inspected bolts, joints, and signs of corrosion during the test on August 7.
The load test determined the bridge's safety for the expected surge of devotees. Officials recommended a maximum capacity of 300 devotees at any given time to ensure safety. Constructed in 2022, the 10-foot-wide bridge connects the Vitthal Pandharinath temple area to the rooftop level of the Nagchandreshwar shrine, with designated entry and exit pathways. Its structural integrity was confirmed, deeming it fit for public use.
