The Viraganur grounds hosted the Madurai Canine Club's 41st and 42nd All Breed Championship Dog Show on Sunday, drawing around 350 dogs representing 50 diverse breeds. A particularly engaging segment was the competition for young handlers aged 12 to 16, where children demonstrated their prowess in presenting dogs of various sizes to judges. Eight young participants were recognized for their exceptional handling and their dogs' calm demeanor.
Adding to the excitement, a Belgian Malinois, a breed known for its police and military applications, performed a compelling security demonstration. A trainer from a private K9 center showcased the dog's capabilities in guarding and detection. Judges from India and Taiwan assessed the contestants, with a Rampur Hound claiming a top prize in the native breeds category. The event also celebrated Indian breeds like Rajapalayam and Chippiparai, reinforcing the club's mission to encourage responsible pet ownership and advocate for stray dog welfare.
