Love Conquers Grief: A Wedding's Joyful Return

High school sweethearts Katie and Devin Joyce marked their first wedding anniversary on July 11, 2025. Their wedding, held in 2025 at St. Mary's Church in Gloucester City, N.J., with a reception at The Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia, was initially planned for August 2024. However, the couple postponed their nuptials following the devastating loss of Katie's brothers, Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau.

Johnny, an NHL star, and Matthew, a high school hockey coach, were tragically killed on August 30, 2024, by an alleged drunk driver while cycling. Their deaths deeply impacted Katie and Devin, who had planned for them to be groomsmen. Despite the profound grief, the couple proceeded with their rescheduled wedding, finding strength in their love and each other.

Katie and Devin incorporated numerous touching tributes to honor Johnny and Matthew. Katie's bridal bouquet featured roses corresponding to their jersey numbers (13 and 21). The groomsmen and fathers wore socks embroidered with these numbers, and custom suit linings included photos of the brothers. Katie's veil bore their handwriting, reading 'Love you - Matty' and 'Love ya - John.'

Seven months after their wedding, in February 2025, Katie announced her pregnancy. The couple welcomed their son, Matthew Guy Joyce, on June 20, 2026. Recently, baby Matthew visited the ice rink where his uncles played hockey, a poignant moment shared by the family as they continue to cherish the memory of Johnny and Matthew.
