8 Mar
Summary
- A dog named Zero was lost for 37 days before reuniting with his family.
- Zero was adopted and escaped the same day due to fear of shelter.
- Volunteers and a drone aided the extensive 37-day search for Zero.

A family in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, joyfully reunited with their adopted dog, Zero, after a remarkable 37-day separation. Zero, a 3-year-old Australian cattle dog, had been adopted on January 16th but escaped his new home within hours. His new owner, Emily Rendall-Araujo, recalled him slipping out of his untethered leash and running into a large, rural field near their property.
The family, along with community volunteers from Jeff's Way Home and a thermal drone, initiated an extensive search effort. The search continued for over five weeks, with intermittent sightings offering glimmers of hope. Temperatures dropped dangerously low during this period, intensifying the family's fears for Zero's safety.
On February 21st, the persistent search finally paid off when Zero was safely caught in a live trap. He had lost 16 pounds but was otherwise found to be in good condition by a veterinarian, with a heart murmur attributed to the stress of his adventure.
Zero is now slowly settling into his new home, showing more of his personality and bonding with his family and other pets. The family expressed immense gratitude to the volunteers and their tight-knit community for their dedication and support throughout the ordeal.
