Central London's Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground is preparing for its grand reopening this summer, promising a fresh experience for its young visitors. The popular attraction, situated in Kensington Gardens, closed its gates in autumn 2025 to undergo significant refurbishment works. At the heart of the reimagined space will be a new, "full-scale" wooden ship, poised to become a central feature for imaginative play.
The playground, located adjacent to Kensington Palace, is a cherished landmark that welcomes approximately one million visitors annually, solidifying its status as the UK's most frequented playground, as reported by Royal Parks. The recent closure marked the beginning of a crucial period of renewal for the beloved site.
This extensive upgrade project represents a £3 million investment aimed at revitalizing the playground's facilities. The Royal Parks charity confirmed that the funds are being allocated to replace equipment that had "reached the end of its life," ensuring a safe and engaging environment for generations to come.
