Legendary Arles Hotel Nord-Pinus Reopens with Vibrant New Look

The iconic Nord-Pinus hotel in Arles, France has undergone a stunning transformation and is set to reopen its doors in November 2025. Closed in 2024, the hotel has been acquired by Swiss art patron Maja Hoffmann and renovated by British-Nigerian fashion designer Duro Olowu.

Olowu, known for his exuberant patterns and textiles, has carefully preserved the hotel's historic character while infusing it with a fresh, vibrant energy. The 18th-century building's original features, such as the lobby's 1940s-era tiles and the grand staircase, have been meticulously restored. Olowu has also incorporated his own design touches, including custom-made wallpapers, carpets, and furniture inspired by his archive of West African textiles.

The Nord-Pinus has long held a mythical status in Arles, having hosted a who's who of famous guests over the decades, from Napoleon III and Maria Callas to Picasso and Hemingway. Locals and visitors alike have eagerly awaited the hotel's reopening, eager to experience its legendary atmosphere once again. With Olowu's thoughtful renovations and Hoffmann's vision, the Nord-Pinus is poised to reclaim its place as a hub of Arles' cultural and social life.
