- New network expands access to Kyrgyzstan's natural beauty.

The Ak-Suu Transverse trail in Kyrgyzstan's Tien-Shan, or 'Mountains of Heaven,' has been transformed by a network of traditional boz-ui yurts. Previously requiring heavy gear, this 110-kilometer route now allows trekkers to carry only day sacks, thanks to repurposed yurt accommodations established by local entrepreneurs.
The trail, originating from Jyrgalan, spans seven high passes and over 21,600 feet of elevation gain. It traverses alpine lakes and waterfalls, showcasing the summer grazing pastures of shepherds. This evolution in tourism infrastructure makes Kyrgyzstan's most beautiful natural spaces accessible to those who might not have previously attempted such expeditions.
This new approach to trekking offers significant benefits, including the ability to explore off-the-beaten-path locations with ease. With yurt camps providing meals and shelter, hikers can focus on the scenery. A daily rate of approximately US$64 covers the all-inclusive experience, with guides and horses available at an extra cost.
