On November 16, 2025, four kittens were dramatically rescued from a perilous situation at a waste transfer station near York. The three-week-old kittens, named Oreo, Biscuit, Mittens and Bob, were unknowingly transported five miles in a skip to the Tancred waste transfer station by a Yorwaste driver.
Just minutes before the 2-tonne woodpile they were buried in was removed by industrial shovels, the kittens' cries were heard, and they were swiftly moved to safety. The workers at the site, Nik Smith, Andrew Pattinson and Alan Dyer, were described as "the luckiest cats to be around" for their timely rescue of the tiny felines.
Vet examinations revealed the kittens were likely feral, with no microchips. Their mother may have brought a half-eaten rabbit found in the woodpile as prey. The workers have now adopted the kittens, who are thriving in their new homes despite the harrowing ordeal.
