18 Dec
Summary
- Campaigner playfully broke protocol with King Charles at OBE ceremony.
- His son's death inspired a vital campaign for school defibrillators.
- Over 7,000 defibrillators deployed, saving more than 80 lives.

Mark King, a charity campaigner from Liverpool, recently received an OBE for his dedicated services. During the ceremony at Windsor Castle, Mr. King engaged in a conversation with King Charles that humorously deviated from established Royal protocol. He even jokingly addressed the King as "from one King to another."
The inspiration behind Mr. King's relentless campaigning stems from the tragic death of his 12-year-old son, Oliver, who suffered a cardiac arrest. This event propelled Mr. King to establish the Oliver King Foundation, focusing on improving access to defibrillators.
His efforts have significantly impacted public health, leading to the distribution of 7,000 defibrillators in state schools across England and resulting in over 80 documented lives saved. Mr. King is now working towards establishing the UK's first dedicated cardiac testing and prevention centre in Liverpool.
