Mental health advocate Craig Ferguson has commenced an extraordinary 3,000-mile journey across the United States, walking through ten states dressed in a kilt. This ambitious challenge, dubbed "Craig Ferguson's Tartan Trek," began on Tuesday from Santa Monica Pier in Los Angeles. Ferguson aims to raise a substantial £1 million for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).
His trek is strategically timed to conclude in Boston by June 14, coinciding with Scotland's World Cup opener against Haiti. Ferguson expressed deep emotion at the start, describing the trek as his biggest challenge yet, involving a marathon a day for 104 consecutive days. He highlighted the global impact of mental health issues, stating his hope that this endeavor will encourage conversations, donations, and support-seeking.
Supporting Ferguson on this significant undertaking is his lifelong friend, Matt Allan, who will manage the support vehicle. The journey will take them past iconic landmarks such as Monument Valley and the Las Vegas Strip. Hazel McIlwraith of SAMH conveyed immense gratitude for Ferguson's efforts, emphasizing that the funds raised will significantly aid their life-changing mental health services across Scotland, especially as demand for support continues to grow.
