Katie had announced her pregnancy in February 2026, calling it their "favorite news to share." She later shared details about the pregnancy's challenges, noting "uncertainty" and "fear" while praising the medical support and "guardian angels" she felt were watching over "Baby Joyce."

The couple tied the knot in July 2025, nearly a year after they postponed their wedding. This delay followed the tragic deaths of Katie's brothers, Johnny and Matthew, in an August 2024 biking accident. Sean M. Higgins was indicted in December 2024 on multiple charges, including aggravated manslaughter and vehicular homicide, related to their deaths. Higgins pleaded not guilty, and his defense has sought to dismiss charges based on claims of prosecutorial misconduct regarding his blood alcohol content.

In the wake of her brothers' passing, Katie expressed her deep love and the unbreakable bond they shared, vowing to honor their memories. Both of her brothers' wives were pregnant at the time of their deaths.
