Queer Eye alum Karamo Brown has opened up about the chronic pain he experienced after a buccal fat removal procedure in 2021. For years, Brown suffered in silence, dealing with scar tissue buildup that blocked saliva drainage and caused significant facial swelling and discomfort. He felt embarrassed by the cosmetic surgery, especially amid public speculation about his appearance.
During the filming of his talk show, which was canceled in March, Brown lost 70 pounds, which helped to mask the visible effects of his condition. He also endured hurtful comments from castmates and felt people looked at him differently. Despite the ongoing pain, he chose not to pursue legal action against the original surgeon, citing advice that it would be fruitless.
Brown recently underwent a successful reconstructive procedure to address the scar tissue and saliva gland issues, bringing him immense relief. He also had a lower blepharoplasty to reduce under-eye bags. Now pain-free, Brown aims to use his experience to help others who may be suffering in silence with chronic pain.
