Kansas City's $33 Martini: A Pricey Disappointment

A recent TikTok video has drawn significant attention to the dining experience at 1587 Prime, a restaurant in Kansas City co-owned by NFL player Travis Kelce and Austin Mahomes. The establishment, named after their jersey numbers, has faced criticism for its pricing and service, particularly concerning a $33 martini.

The viral video showcased a patron's experience with the expensive martini, which required a tableside preparation with an unadvertised $10 upcharge. The drink, described on the menu as a mix of Ketel One or Bombay Sapphire, apertivo, fino sherry, and roasted fennel, took approximately 45 minutes to be made. This lengthy wait contributed to a total wait time of nearly an hour for the beverage.

Beyond the martini, other menu items also received negative feedback. A $25 fried chicken dish was described as not particularly good, and a $100 steak arrived with forgotten $15 sauces and was not cooked to the customer's specification. The overall dining experience for the patron culminated in a bill of $650, with only the broccolini being deemed acceptable.

The restaurant, 1587 Prime, opened in September and its name playfully references the jersey numbers of its owners. The recent social media attention has sparked conversations about the value proposition of high-priced dining experiences, especially when service and food quality do not meet expectations.
