Revered Pontiff Continues Legacy of Devotion at Kapaleeshwarar

Last month, the 70th Sankaracharya of the prestigious Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Sri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal, made a special visit to the Mylapore Kapaleeshwarar temple in Chennai. During his visit, the revered pontiff offered a rare and exquisite diamond-studded gold nose ring to the presiding goddess, Karpagambal.
The Sankaracharya was received with traditional honors by the temple's joint commissioner, executive officer, and trustees. Devotees gathered inside the temple to witness this auspicious event. In his address, the Sankaracharya recalled the legacy of the Adi Sankara tradition, where spiritual leaders would offer ornaments and jewelry to the deities. He drew references from Adi Sankara's renowned works, including the Tripurasundari Manasa Pooja Stotram and the Lalitha Sahasranamam.
Earlier this year, the Sankaracharya had also offered an ear ornament to the goddess Akhilandeswari at the Thiruvanaikoil temple. Additionally, he reminisced about the visit of the 68th Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Mahaswamigal, to the Kapaleeshwarar temple during the Visvavasu Year in 1966.
