Summary
- Johns Hopkins' childhood home in Gambrills sold.
- New owners plan housing, healing, and wellness campus.
- Project includes supportive housing and equine therapy.

Whites Hall, the historic childhood home of Johns Hopkins located in Gambrills, Anne Arundel County, has been sold. This marks a significant turning point for the property's future after a local nonprofit, Friends of the Johns Hopkins House, spent over a year attempting to acquire and preserve the site, but ultimately fell short of their fundraising goals.
The property has now been purchased by A Path to Peace, a nonprofit organization dedicated to community well-being. Their vision is to transform the 13-acre estate into a comprehensive housing, healing, and wellness campus. This initiative is slated to unfold over the next three years.
The planned campus will offer supportive group housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, it will provide equine therapy programs accessible to residents, military veterans, and the wider community. Agricultural initiatives, including community gardens and a historic memorial, are also part of the development plan.
A Path to Peace founder, Jaqueline Williams, stated that the acquisition signifies a long-term commitment to the community and fulfills a belief that everyone deserves a sacred place to heal. The organization is currently in the early planning stages, engaging with local stakeholders, and anticipates sharing more detailed plans in the coming months.
