A Jersey DJ is celebrating an incredible 30-year commitment to a local charity event. Geof Dingle has provided the soundtrack for the Lions Club of Jersey's Swimarathon, an annual lane-swimming fundraiser held at Les Quennevais Sports Centre. His music helps maintain the energy and morale of the participants throughout the event, which this year ran from Wednesday to Sunday.
Dingle described the atmosphere as "electric" and a "fantastic community event," highlighting the broad support from swimmers, sponsors, and volunteers. The Lions Club of Jersey reported that their Swimarathon has raised almost £4 million since its start in 1972. This year's event also saw Dingle receive a special presentation marking his 30th anniversary, including a trophy, a bottle of fizz, and a signed card.
Adding a personal touch to his role, Dingle mentioned that younger swimmers often direct their music choices. This year, requests included the popular K-pop group Demon Hunters, showcasing the evolving tastes of the participants.
