Jamshedpur's Holi: Gated Parties Replace Street Celebrations

A notable shift in Holi celebrations is occurring in Jamshedpur, particularly among young adults. The traditional street festivities are increasingly being replaced by organized events held within gated apartment complexes, hotels, and resorts. This trend has gained momentum in recent years, especially following the Covid-19 pandemic, as revelers seek a more controlled and entertainment-focused experience.

These curated Holi parties, often scheduled on weekends up to two weeks before the actual festival, attract attendees primarily in the 18-30 age group. Entry passes typically range from Rs 500 to Rs 5,000. Organizers are planning over two dozen such events this year, expecting thousands of attendees, a significant increase from approximately 15 events held last year.

The attractions at these parties include elaborate food and beverage spreads, with some featuring swimming pool parties and rain dance activities. Popular DJs and singers are also being brought in from cities like Kolkata and Mumbai to enhance the entertainment. For many young people, these resort-based events are preferred for their perceived safety and better amenities compared to public celebrations.
