Christopher Jones will run the London Marathon on Sunday, marking the one-year anniversary of his wife Paula Heister's passing. Paula died in April 2025 from glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.
Jones, residing in Cambridge, is running to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. He has so far generated close to £10,000 for the charity as he prepares for the 26.2-mile race.
Paula, originally from Switzerland, studied at Oxford University where she met Christopher in 2009. After marrying in 2023, they moved to Vienna, Austria.
Her symptoms of headaches and numbness began in February 2025. Christopher began running after her death, discovering the marathon coincided with the date of her passing.
He views this event as a meaningful way to honor Paula and an opportunity for others connected to her to find a different space for remembrance.
Over 59,000 runners are expected to participate in the London Marathon, which begins in Greenwich Park and concludes on The Mall.
