Hayden Panettiere's Postpartum Struggle Revealed

Hayden Panettiere detailed her significant struggles with postpartum depression, which emerged after welcoming her daughter Kaya in 2014. By October 2015, Panettiere was actively seeking treatment for the condition, later sharing on social media that she was taking time to "reflect holistically" on her health.

During a 2015 TV appearance, Panettiere clarified that postpartum depression is a complex and often misunderstood condition, emphasizing it's not always about negative feelings towards one's child but a broader, uncontrollable, and painful experience. She highlighted the need for support and open discussion surrounding the disorder.

Panettiere's battle significantly impacted her life and career. Her role on the series 'Nashville' incorporated her mental health journey, though she also faced professional setbacks, including the cancellation of a Neutrogena contract after openly discussing her postpartum depression in 2015.

In May 2026, Panettiere spoke to Us about her relationship with her daughter and then-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko, calling her daughter an "incredible gift." This came just months before news of her sudden death in August 2026 was publicly announced by her father, Skip Panettiere, who requested privacy for the grieving family.

Her struggles with postpartum depression and subsequent addiction to alcohol and opioids led to a difficult decision regarding custody. Panettiere relinquished full custody of Kaya, who then relocated to Ukraine to live with Klitschko. Panettiere acknowledged in May 2026 that she had not fully processed the emotions surrounding this situation.
