Guwahati Enforces Strict Traffic Rules for Chhath Puja Celebrations

In preparation for the upcoming Chhath Puja celebrations on October 27-28, the Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration in Guwahati has announced strict traffic regulations to be enforced in the city.
The restrictions will be in effect from 11am on October 27 to 11am on October 28. During this period, no commercial goods carriers or heavy vehicles will be allowed to enter Guwahati. MG Road, between Machkhowa Point and the Chief Justice's Bungalow Point, will be closed to all vehicles except those transporting puja materials and devotees. Slow-moving vehicles like hand carts and rickshaws will also be restricted on this stretch, unless used for puja-related purposes.
The administration has also put in place several diversions and parking restrictions across the city. City buses from Khanapara towards Bharalumukh must avoid Panbazar ROB and instead take GS Road and AT Road. Heavy vehicles, including inter-district and ASTC rural buses from Jalukbari, will be diverted via NH-27. Parking for vehicles carrying devotees and puja materials will be allowed at designated areas, but no parking will be permitted on several major roads.
The district authorities have urged puja committees to designate proper parking spaces away from puja sites and deploy volunteers for crowd and traffic management. Devotees have been requested to park their vehicles in an orderly manner to avoid inconvenience to others during the Chhath Puja celebrations.
