Summary
- Two fathers bonded through shared loss are running a marathon together.

- Their close friendship developed from a shared traumatic experience.

Two fathers, Sergio Aguiar and David Stancombe, have forged an unbreakable bond through their shared grief and a passion for running. Their daughters, Alice and Elsie, were tragically killed in an attack in July 2024. Initially running the London Marathon separately in 2025 to honor their memories, the two men found solace and strength in each other's company.
Their shared experience on the marathon course led to a deep friendship, with both men describing their connection as being like brothers. Running has become a crucial form of therapy, helping them cope with their loss and providing a positive way to remember Alice and Elsie. Sergio stated that running significantly improves his well-being, while David emphasizes running for personal improvement rather than speed.
This year, they will run the 26.2-mile London Marathon side-by-side, offering mutual support and a shared sense of purpose. Sergio has also embarked on a journey to complete six major world marathons within 12 months for a foundation established in Alice's name, Alice's WonderDance, having already run marathons in Berlin, Chicago, New York, Tokyo, and Boston. David expressed immense pride in Sergio's commitment.
Inspired by their efforts, Alice and Elsie's schools will participate in a mini marathon in Southport. The fathers emphasize the positive impact running has on families and the community. On marathon day, they will be supported by their families and Bebe King's family, drawing strength from each other and their daughters' enduring spirits.
