An inspiring 86-year-old woman from Telford, Shropshire, has found a unique way to give back after a near-death experience. Initially moved to hospice care in 2021 with a prognosis of only 48 hours to live, she made a surprising recovery.
Determined to express her gratitude, she began knitting bears using string, having been told she was out of wool. Since November 2021, when she was discharged from hospice, she has created over 550 bears.
She knits approximately 100 bears annually, donating them to various hospices, hospitals, and charities throughout Shropshire. Her efforts specifically support Severn Hospice and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Despite being immobile and confined to a chair, Barbara finds immense joy in her craft. The positive reactions to her creations and the gratitude from recipients provide her with a significant thrill.
