The International Spirits Challenge, in its 31st year, has announced its 2026 trophy winners, naming Glenmorangie The Thirty as the Supreme Champion Spirit. This is a significant achievement, as it's the first time in six years a single malt Scotch has received the competition's highest honor. Glenmorangie The Thirty, aged for no less than 30 years in Scotland's Highlands, was matured in ex-bourbon casks before a second maturation in Burgundian red wine casks. The whisky itself offers cherry fruit aromatics, with a palate of stone fruit and citrus peel, finishing with notes of leather and dried cedar. The 183-year-old malt house is owned by LVMH, the world's largest luxury goods conglomerate. The spirit is presented in an elegant decanter, a nod to the distillery's tall copper stills, which contribute to the house style's delicate floral characteristics. "Dr. Bill" Lumsden, head of distilling, achieved a compelling balance between florality and aged fruit notes in the 30-year expression, which retails for under $1000. This year also saw Glenmorangie release a $100 limited edition in collaboration with actor Harrison Ford, featuring apricot and vanilla aromas, and a palate of toasted brioche and milk chocolate. The brand's 12-year-old flagship remains a popular and complex, widely available option at $50.
