Summary
- A young girl's fear of 'monsters' was traced to a massive bee hive.
- Beekeepers discovered over 40,000 bees and 100lb of honeycomb.
- The infestation led to $20,000 in wall repairs, costing the family a loan.
A three-year-old girl's persistent complaints about monsters in her closet and a humming sound in the wall were initially dismissed as imagination. However, by February 2025, her fear escalated, leading her parents to investigate.
Their investigation began in earnest when a large cluster of bees was spotted near the attic laundry vent. After consulting multiple beekeepers, a third finally identified the source: a massive bee hive hidden within the cavity of the child's bedroom wall.
Upon discovery in March 2025, beekeepers removed an astonishing 40,000 bees and over 100 pounds of honeycomb. The extraction process was dramatic, with bees swarming out of the wall. The sound the child described as 'monsters' was indeed the buzzing of the trapped bees.
Subsequent removals in April and May 2025 extracted an additional 20,000 and 10,000 bees, respectively. The wall was finally sealed in July 2025, but repairs amounted to $20,000, a cost not covered by insurance and financed through a loan.
The family has since converted the room into a nursery, though the homeowner admits to occasional checks for lingering insects. The beekeeper relocated the bees to his apiary, contributing to efforts to increase bee populations.
