Summary
- Gen Z calls for 'green days' to work from nature spots.

- Company launches 'Green Leave' with three paid days off annually.

Gen Z is championing the concept of 'green days,' proposing that workdays be spent in natural environments such as forests, mountains, or beaches. A survey indicated that nearly half of this demographic supports a monthly paid day off dedicated to reconnecting with nature. This generation frequently shares on social media how time spent outdoors significantly benefits their mental well-being, with many reporting a decrease in depression and stress when in nature.
The survey, commissioned by organic food company Ecotone, polled 2,000 UK office workers. Findings highlighted that 88% of Gen Z office workers perceive negative mental health effects from spending entire days indoors, with 30% feeling confined by office walls and screens. A striking 91% expressed a preference for working outdoors or in nature at least partially.
Recognizing these sentiments and backed by research showing the positive impacts of nature on life satisfaction and mental health, Ecotone is launching 'Green Leave.' This initiative will grant employees three annual paid days off to engage in environmental volunteering. HR Director Ann Chambers stated that 'Green Leave' acknowledges the value of outdoor time for well-being, creativity, and global connection, aiming to boost both employee health and environmental action.
