A groundbreaking fashion collection, fashioned entirely from the wool of exclusively gay sheep, has made its debut on a New York runway. Los Angeles-based designer Michael Schmidt, known for styling A-list celebrities, spearheaded this unique initiative to highlight a 'human rights story' and advocate for rams that exhibit same-sex attraction.
The 'I Wool Survive' fashion show, a collaboration between German non-profit Rainbow Wool and gay dating app Grindr, featured items like hats and dungarees made from this special wool. Schmidt described the project as an art installation intended to demonstrate that homosexuality is an intrinsic part of both the human and animal condition, thereby refuting the idea that it is merely a choice.
This campaign draws attention to studies indicating that up to one in twelve rams are gay and are frequently culled due to perceived issues with farm breeding efficiency. Rainbow Wool exclusively uses wool from these non-mating sheep, aiming to shed light on the prejudice faced by both LGBT communities and animals exhibiting same-sex attraction, promoting acceptance of their natural existence.
