Fresno's 10 public swimming pools are now open seven days a week, providing a free oasis for residents as summer temperatures climb. Families can visit any pool from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. for an affordable way to cool down and enjoy outdoor activities.
Months of preparation, including extensive maintenance and inspections, ensured the pools are ready for the season. Each pool is staffed by four to six certified lifeguards trained in first aid and CPR, prioritizing swimmer safety.
In addition to open swim, the city is offering free swim lessons for children aged 3 to 17, beginning June 22. There is a noticeable increase in enrollment for lessons, with some children as young as six months participating. These lessons are vital for teaching water safety and reducing drowning risks.
For many, the pools represent a beloved community tradition, with some residents visiting for decades. Last year, an estimated 23,000 people utilized the city's pools, and officials anticipate a similar turnout this summer.
