20 Nov
Summary
- Free self-defense classes are empowering women and girls.
- Classes offer simple techniques for personal protection.
- Violence against women is described as an epidemic level.

A series of free self-defense classes are being offered to women and girls aged 16 and over, aiming to foster a greater sense of empowerment and personal safety. Taekwondo instructor Sarah Wilson is leading these vital sessions, which provide practical techniques for self-protection and build confidence for participants heading out in public spaces.
The initiative comes at a critical time, with law enforcement officials highlighting the pervasive nature of violence against women and girls. Detective Liz Warner emphasized that this issue constitutes a significant threat to public safety, extending from streets into private homes. The classes are thus viewed as a crucial step in equipping women and girls with the means to defend themselves.
Scheduled across November and December, the classes have a capacity of 20 participants per session. A total of 100 individuals are expected to benefit from this free program, with registration being on a first-come, first-served basis. The classes are taking place at two distinct locations within Stourport, offering accessible opportunities for the community.
