Libraries in Devon are partnering with a cycling charity to offer free bicycle safety checks, aiming to encourage more people to cycle. The initiative between Libraries Unlimited and Ride On will provide free 30-minute sessions at four library locations throughout May and June.
These sessions, taking place in Seaton, Holsworthy, Exmouth, and Bovey Tracey, are designed to inspect bikes for safety and optimal performance. They will also educate attendees on essential bike maintenance techniques. Alex Kittow, CEO of Libraries Unlimited, highlighted the program's goal to help people resume cycling, reduce expenses, and adopt more eco-friendly transportation choices.
Kittow emphasized that libraries serve as community hubs offering more than just books, fostering confidence and new skills for improved well-being. The scheduled dates are 14 May at Seaton Library, 21 May at Holsworthy Library, 28 May at Exmouth Library, and 11 June at Bovey Tracey Library. Sam Wright of Ride On noted these free checks are an excellent way to ensure bikes are summer-ready, addressing common maintenance issues that can easily be fixed by their mechanics to empower cyclists.
