Aishah's Food Charity, founded in 2023 by Aishah Ahmed in Weston-super-Mare, is significantly increasing its capacity to provide free hot meals. The charity has received vital funding from the Comic Relief community fund, enabling it to meet a "growing demand" for its services.
Ahmed noted the "super important" funding allows the charity to procure ingredients and packaging, essential for preparing over 150 meals weekly. These meals are distributed to local families and homeless individuals struggling with rising living costs. Celebrity chef Dean Edwards has lauded the charity's inspiring work, highlighting the profound difference it makes in the community.
The charity operates from Pappadoms Takeaway, where Aishah and her father, Syed Ahmed, cook the meals. "You see new faces but you see the same as well, it is sad because you see the demand is growing," Aishah stated, emphasizing the need for such support for low-income families.
Red Nose Day, the national fundraising campaign for Comic Relief, contributes to funding grassroots groups like Aishah's Food Charity in England. The program aims to tackle poverty and hardship both locally and globally.
