Nearly 20 years after Lauren Sundstrom's first gender-affirming surgery, she shared a heartwarming story about her father's supportive gift. Following facial feminization surgery, her dad presented her with a sapphire, her birthstone, symbolizing rebirth. He explained it was also the first piece of fine jewelry he wished to give her.

Sundstrom's father, a construction contractor, embraced her transition with a newfound paternal tenderness, a side she had never seen before. He later had the sapphire reset into a ring, which she now wears constantly as a daily reminder of his love and acceptance.
