21 Aug
Summary
- Designer bought out ex-husband's share of a foreclosed farmhouse.
- Renovated the 1870s farmhouse with a friend for shared equity.
- Used salvaged materials, including wood from a demolished barn.

Designer Eny Lee Parker acquired full ownership of an 1870s farmhouse in Connecticut, following its foreclosure and her subsequent divorce. She then partnered with her studio manager, Soren Ferguson, to renovate the 1,716-square-foot property. Mr. Ferguson contributed financially towards materials and gained equity in the house during the renovation process.
Their renovation strategy, dubbed "scrappy," focused on resourcefulness. They meticulously documented their progress, incorporating salvaged materials, including wood from a demolished barn. This resulted in unique features like oak slab countertops and a sideboard with a distinctive patina.
The designers embraced the farmhouse's original charm, retaining exposed pine rafters and wide-plank oak floors. Customizations included Shaker-style cabinets with handmade ceramic pulls and a focus on neutral tones for common areas like the kitchen, blending vintage elements with modern touches.
