Elsie Hewitt: Formula Over Breastfeeding Guilt
26 Feb
Summary
- Elsie Hewitt discussed guilt over choosing formula for their daughter.
- She prioritized mental health and recovery over breastfeeding demands.
- Hewitt and Davidson share formula feeding duties for their baby.

Elsie Hewitt, partner of comedian Pete Davidson, recently penned an essay detailing her choice to formula-feed their daughter, Scottie Rose. Hewitt described an internal conflict, a 'mini war within my body and my mind,' stemming from the societal pressure and guilt associated with not breastfeeding. She explained that after a challenging pregnancy, her decision prioritized her mental well-being and recovery.
Hewitt also noted that the demands, isolation, and exhaustion of breastfeeding felt unsustainable, especially when considering partner involvement. She and Davidson are now sharing the responsibility of feeding their baby formula. Despite the guilt, Hewitt asserted that her bond with Scottie is strong and not dependent on breastfeeding, underscoring that motherhood experiences vary significantly.
She further elaborated that after giving birth, she developed mastitis, adding another layer to her feelings about not having breastfed. Hewitt advocates for less judgment in feeding choices, stating that a healthy baby and a mentally sound mother should coexist. The couple welcomed Scottie Rose on December 12, 2025, and have since hinted at marriage plans, with Davidson expressing a desire for more children.
