A retired couple has successfully completed a 95-mile charity walk, embarking on their second "Pensioners' Pilgrimage." Nick and Kerstin Banham, aged 84 and 74 respectively, trekked for ten days along the Grand Union Canal towpath, starting from their home in Daventry, Northamptonshire, and finishing in London. This remarkable feat was undertaken to raise funds for Harry's Pals, a charity dedicated to supporting parents whose children have life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
The couple were inspired to support Harry's Pals after learning about the emotional assistance it provides to families facing difficult diagnoses. Their challenging journey involved carrying all their supplies in backpacks. The "Pensioners' Pilgrimage" began on 21 September and concluded successfully, with the Banhams raising nearly £4,000 for the cause. They stated their motivation was to undertake a significant challenge, as they felt unable to participate in activities like marathon running or mountain climbing.
