- Purolator's initiative aims to meet growing food bank demand.
The fourth annual Purolator Tackle Hunger National Red Bag Campaign has arrived in Edmonton, Alberta. This initiative aims to bolster local food banks by collecting non-perishable items. This week, 4,000 red bags were distributed to Edmonton homes, with a call for residents to fill them with donations.
These collected food items will be gathered by Purolator couriers on Saturday and delivered to Edmonton's Food Bank. This campaign is part of a larger, nationwide effort involving 21 communities, and has provided over 515,000 meals since its inception in 2023. Purolator launched this program in response to the significant increase in demand for food bank services, which reached a record high in March 2025.
Purolator's Tackle Hunger program has been active since 2003, evolving from smaller food drives held at company terminals. In addition to the red bag campaign, Purolator frequently partners with the Edmonton Elks football team for food drives. Accepted donations include items like nut butters, cereal, healthy snacks, and canned goods. For those who did not receive a red bag, online donations are possible via the Purolator Virtual Red Bag campaign.
