Vanessa Dos Santos, who initially pursued mathematics, has pivoted to a successful career in baking, opening Eden Coffee & Bakery in Mattapoisett. After graduating from culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu in Boston, Dos Santos gained valuable experience working in professional kitchens, including a notable position at Hotel Viking in Newport, Rhode Island.
The bakery, located at 33 County Road, opened its doors this past April, filling the former Poi Market space. Dos Santos identified the location's existing walk-in cooler as a key factor in her decision, alleviating a previous business hurdle. She describes her establishment as a "hippie French bakery," characterized by its bright, colorful decor, jazzy ambiance, and rotating displays of local art.
Eden Coffee & Bakery features a diverse menu that includes French, Italian, and Brazilian offerings, with staples like chocolate croissants alongside unique, rotating pastry selections. Dos Santos also continues to provide custom cake services. Seating approximately two dozen patrons, the bakery has quickly become a favored spot for both work and leisure, with Dos Santos aiming for her establishment to be a place customers repeatedly choose.
