Bryce Holmes, an 18-year-old, has reached the pinnacle of Scouting by earning his Eagle rank. This significant accomplishment comes after a challenging three-year battle with optic pathway glioma, a rare cancer affecting his optic nerve. Holmes earned his Eagle rank on January 29, just two days before the anniversary of his father's own Eagle Scout achievement decades earlier.
Despite the ongoing health challenges, Holmes dedicated himself to his community service project. As a member of Boy Scout Troop 303, he spearheaded a fundraising effort that amassed $6,000. These funds were used to purchase and install a gaga ball pit at Lambert-Lavoie Elementary School, his former school. This project aims to enhance the recreational activities available to students during lunch and gym classes.
The gaga ball pit, a modern twist on dodgeball, was constructed from durable composite materials and designed to be flood-resistant. Holmes expressed his desire to give back to the school where his own educational journey began. Any remaining funds from the project will be donated to the school's parent-teacher organization.
