The Duke of Kent, aged 90, recently hosted lifeguards from the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) at Kensington Palace. This event celebrated 25 years of the RNLI's lifeguarding service and recognized individuals dedicated to beach safety.
During the ceremony, Lead Lifeguard Supervisor Matty McLeod was honored for his exceptional bravery. He had previously saved the life of Joanna Hicks from a rip current at Newgale Beach. In a poignant moment, Ms. Hicks joined the Duke in presenting Mr. McLeod with the 'Thanks of the Institution Award for Gallantry'.
This engagement follows other recent appearances by the Duke, including a balcony appearance at Trooping the Colour and attending the first Order of St Michael and St George service of King Charles' reign as Grand Master. He was observed using a walking stick and wearing a sunhat at the RNLI event.
