Summary
- A six-year-old golden retriever swallowed a car key lodged in its stomach.
- The dog underwent a successful one-hour endoscopic procedure in Kolkata.
- Minimally invasive surgery avoided risks and complications of major surgery.
A six-year-old golden retriever, Bruno, received a new lease on life in Kolkata following a critical incident where he swallowed a car key. The key lodged in his stomach, prompting an urgent trip from Jamshedpur to a private facility in Kolkata for a specialized procedure on Friday evening.
Veterinary surgeons successfully extricated the key through an hour-long endoscopic operation. This minimally invasive approach was chosen to avoid the greater risks, pain, and complications associated with major abdominal surgery, such as a gastrectomy. The successful outcome has allowed Bruno to return home with his relieved owner.
Bruno's owners, a doctor couple from Jamshedpur, initially sought local veterinary help after the incident on the night of March 22. When conservative treatment and X-rays confirmed the key remained stuck, they were advised to seek advanced care in Kolkata. The dog's recovery marks a significant relief for the family, who are now more vigilant about keeping small objects out of Bruno's reach.
