A family in Philadelphia is celebrating the return of their beloved dog, Forty, who vanished 11 years ago. Found by officers on March 23, Forty was identified through his microchip, which contained updated contact information. The dog had been stolen from his yard in 2014, with only his sibling eventually recovered.
Despite the passage of time, Forty's owner had recently updated his microchip details, holding onto hope. When shelter staff scanned Forty, they were able to contact the family, leading to an emotional reunion. The family has since relocated but traveled to bring Forty home to live out his senior years.
This heartwarming story serves as a reminder for pet owners to keep microchip information current. Animal rescue officials also urge finders of stray animals to check for microchips, as Forty could have been reunited with his family much sooner.
