Diya Joukani, a 25-year-old designer from Mumbai, has gained global recognition for her unique style and viral social media videos. These short clips showcase her walking through Mumbai streets, often with local residents, set to popular music. Her signature look combines traditional Indian aari and zardozi hand-embroidery with contemporary denim pieces from her brand, DiyaDiya.
Joukani's online presence, with over 900,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram as of November 2025, has led to millions of views and earned her the moniker "the cool girl from India." This popularity translated into significant commercial success when she debuted her brand in January, selling over 3,000 pieces in just two days.
Her fashion influence extends globally, inspiring young women in cities like Beirut, Lima, and Lagos to create their own "cool girl" style walks, celebrating a fashion trend originating from the Global South. Joukani recently attended Paris Fashion Week and expressed a desire for future runway shows to be accessible, held on the street.
Born and raised in Mumbai's Bandra neighborhood, Joukani began customizing her clothes at a young age. After studying in New Zealand and briefly pursuing styling in East London, she returned to Mumbai to launch DiyaDiya in July 2025. She enlisted local tailors, including Ruksar Sheikh as head tailor, to help produce her handcrafted designs, emphasizing that her brand's creations are made in her hometown.
