Care Leavers Get Unlimited Data Lifeline

A new initiative is providing hundreds of discount SIM cards to care leavers across Staffordshire, offering them a vital lifeline as they adjust to independent living. These SIM cards come with unlimited calls, texts, and data for a minimal monthly cost of £4.50, ensuring affordable and reliable mobile connectivity.

More than 600 SIM cards have been distributed to individuals aged 18 and above. The program, a collaboration between Staffordshire County Council and mobile network Three, focuses on equipping care leavers with the necessary tools to access essential services, maintain contact with support networks, and pursue opportunities.

This initiative extends beyond basic communication, aiding care leavers in tasks such as job applications, attending virtual interviews, and engaging with online learning platforms. The positive feedback highlights its importance, with one recipient calling it a 'lifeline' for online therapy and general communication without financial worry. An assessment will determine the program's future after its initial two-year phase.
