Dharwad is set to host a vibrant dog show and a crucial stray dog adoption camp on February 22. Over 150 dogs have been registered for the competition, which will award prizes based on criteria such as health, grooming, discipline, and performance. This year marks a special addition, with police dogs participating for the first time, drawing increased interest compared to previous years.
The adoption camp offers significant benefits for new pet owners, including free anti-rabies vaccination, combined vaccinations for common diseases, deworming, and a starter kit. Sterilization within a year and a rabies awareness certificate will also be provided for adopted animals.
Recent surveys indicate a substantial canine population in Dharwad, with 15,318 pet dogs and 31,018 stray dogs in urban areas, and 3,030 pet dogs and 5,817 stray dogs in rural areas. The district administration is actively promoting responsible pet ownership through such events.
