3 Nov
Summary
- Thousands ascend steep Deviramma hill for deity's darshan.
- Festival dates set for November 7 and 8, with preparations underway.
- Night trekking is banned due to high risks.
- New safety ropes installed on treacherous sections.
The annual Deviramma festival is set to commence on November 7 and 8, drawing thousands of devotees to the mist-shrouded Deviramma hill in Chikkamagaluru. This sacred site, believed to be a protective force for the Malnad region, only truly comes alive during this week-long celebration.
The district administration has implemented comprehensive safety measures for the expected influx of pilgrims. Following an inspection by the deputy commissioner, which included a meeting with departmental heads and a review of the trekking route, new safety ropes have been fixed along hazardous and landslide-prone areas. Emergency services, including fire, health, and police departments, have conducted mock drills to prepare for any potential incidents.
To ensure the safety of devotees, particularly given the steep and slippery nature of the climb, night trekking has been prohibited. Devotees will be permitted to begin their ascent only after puja rituals conclude between 6 am and 10 am on November 7. Darshan will be accessible on both November 7 and 8, with entry to the hill shrine closing at 4 pm daily.
