Ember, a year-old Dalmatian, has been adopted by the DeFuniak Springs Fire Department in Florida. She was surrendered by her previous owner who was moving overseas and was taken in by the Alaqua Animal Refuge. Fire Chief Ross Sheffield recognized Ember's suitability for a fire station due to her breed's history. Dalmatians were historically valuable in fire departments for their alertness and ability to calm horses. The entire firehouse voted to adopt Ember in March. Since then, she has been settling in and training to become a fire safety educator, particularly for children. The community has shown great enthusiasm for Ember's arrival, with many residents looking forward to meeting her.
