Summary
- A Hyderabad couple spent Rs 15 lakh to bring their dog to Australia.
- Australian rules require dogs from India to quarantine six months in a rabies-free country.
- The couple stayed with their dog in Dubai for a month before quarantine.

A couple from Hyderabad undertaking a move to Australia refused to leave their pet dog behind, opting instead to incur significant costs. They spent approximately Rs 15 lakh to ensure their dog, Sky, could accompany them to their new home.
Australian import laws require dogs originating from India, considered a non-approved country due to rabies status, to spend six months in a rabies-free nation before entry. This regulation presented a substantial financial and emotional challenge for the couple.
To manage the process, the couple resided in Dubai with Sky for the first month. Subsequently, Sky entered a quarantine facility for the remaining duration. The entire relocation effort spanned about 190 days, involving extensive documentation and veterinary procedures.
