Summary
- Annadale Community Centre's garden transformed by volunteers.
- The group is nominated for the BBC Make a Difference Awards.
- The garden serves as a community hub improving wellbeing.

Annadale Community Centre's grounds have been revitalized over the past year by a dedicated volunteer gardening group, transforming from neglected land into a thriving green space. This "hidden gem" has earned a nomination for the BBC Make a Difference Awards, recognizing its significant contribution to the local area.
The group, which meets weekly and will soon celebrate its first anniversary, has seen substantial growth. What began with basic landscaping and a polytunnel has evolved to include a pond, vegetable beds, and flourishing flowers. Members highlight the positive impact on their wellbeing, providing routine and social connection.
For many, the garden has been a crucial point of connection and support. New residents find it easier to build roots and friendships, while others, like an 87-year-old widower, find companionship and a place to "have a yarn" with fellow members. The initiative's primary aim is to enhance community wellbeing.
Annadale Community Centre Garden Group is among four finalists for an award celebrating environmental improvement. They are nominated alongside individuals and groups focused on wildlife conservation, environmental education in schools, and community litter-picking efforts. The overall winners are set to be announced on September 25.
