In a prestigious recognition, Wildweed, a Cincinnati-based Italian restaurant, has been named one of the 50 best places to eat in America by The New York Times. The eatery, located on Walnut Street in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, is the only restaurant in Ohio to make the prestigious "America's Best Restaurants 2025" list.
According to New York Times food writer Brett Anderson, Wildweed is "one of the Midwest's most impressive and regionally distinctive Italian restaurants." The restaurant, owned by Chef David Jackman and his wife Lydia, started as a pasta pop-up in 2018 before opening its permanent location in 2024.
Jackman's innovative approach to Italian cuisine has earned him high praise. Anderson noted that the "descriptions for each course at the restaurant 'are filled with action,' with dishes that 'accentuate the silky beauty of lake perch' and lead to 'coherent and novel' creations like 'cool marcona almond tofu jeweled with raw tuna and pickled ramps.'" Jackman was also a 2025 finalist for the James Beard Award in the regional category of Best Chef: Great Lakes.
In a post on Instagram, Wildweed and the Jackmans expressed their gratitude for the recognition, stating that the honor "means a lot" and that they are "thankful for everyone who's touched or been touched by our restaurant."
