Child's Lost Finger Sparks Glove Campaign
11 Mar
Summary
- Reality star's son lost part of finger in ice skating accident.
- Campaign calls for mandatory protective gloves for children.
- Petition for new law nears 25,000 signatures and government response.

A distressing New Year's Eve accident has led reality television personality Chloe Lewis to launch a significant campaign. Her six-year-old son, Beau, suffered a severe injury where he lost the top half of his finger while ice skating. Despite undergoing surgery, doctors were unable to reattach the damaged part of his finger. Lewis expressed her determination to prevent other children from enduring similar pain and trauma, aiming to change UK law to mandate protective gloves for young skaters.
The campaign has gained substantial traction, with over 24,000 signatures on a petition addressed to the UK Government. This level of support ensures an official government response and brings the initiative closer to a potential parliamentary debate should it reach 100,000 signatures. In response to the incident, Planet Ice venues announced that protective gloves will become compulsory for all children under the age of 12, effective from June 1.
